History
Camp Singing Wind opened in 1958 for Camp Fire's Lower Columbia Council. The 184 acre facility was donated to Camp Fire on the condition that the property be used specifically for youth programs.
In the beginning, campers slept in tents and swimming lessons were taught in the Salmon Creek. According to one former counselor, teaching swimming lessons in no more than knee deep water was quite a challenge.
In time the old Blue Bird cabins were brought in from an old logging camp. These cozy cabins slept 10-12 campers. Soon after the A Frames were brought in for the older girls.
From the very beginning, Camp Singing Wind was about campers having fun while exploring the world around them. Camp Singing Wind still offers the same opportunities to learn about the environment, build teamwork skills, and have a great time doing it all.
